Summer Session: June 5 - July 3 + Performance

Concert Band/Orchestra (T/Th 2pm-4pm & Saturdays 10-12:00 = 11 rehearsals + concert):

These rehearsals are lead by Jacob Meir Barsky and may include assistance by special guest instructors. With a large signup, we will also bring in special instructors for instrument-specific masterclass. This group is for students of all ages with 1 or more years of experience playing their instrument (with the ability to read basic notes and rhythms) and is open to woodwind, brass, strings, percussionists, and electric bass players. We will practice concert band/orchestra pieces largely depending on the participants that sign up. There will be a 15 minute break time from 3-3:15 every rehearsal and 11-11:15 on Saturdays.

Summer Jazz (M/W/F 3:15pm-4:45pm 13 rehearsals + concert):

This ensemble is lead by Jacob Meir Barsky and is focused on jazz and blues performance. Open to any type of instrumentalist with 1 or more years of experience on their instrument including the ability to read basic notes and rhythms (woodwinds, brass, percussion, keyboard, bowed strings, guitarists, etc) are welcome to join us for this class. This class is open to students from any school. Waikiki School students may be eligible to borrow an instrument from the school for the duration of the program. There will be a 10 minute break at 4:00 every class.

Brazilian Samba Percussion (Saturdays 1pm-2pm 4 rehearsals + concert):

These lessons are taught by Bala, the leader of Samba Reggae Hawaii. The class is an introduction to a variety of Brazilian percussion music. Students do not need percussion experience. However, this class is highly recommended for students interested in drumming.

String Orchestra (M/W/F 3:15pm-4:45pm 13 rehearsals + concert):

This ensemble is taught by Rachel Saul and Arri Nguyen and is focused on orchestral music for bowed strings only. Open to string players with 1 or more years of experience on their instrument including the ability to read basic notes and rhythms. This class is open to students from any school. Waikiki School students may be eligible to borrow an instrument from the school for the duration of the program. There will be a 10 minute break at 4:00 every class.

Beginner Woodwind & Brass (M/W/F 2pm-3pm 13 rehearsals + concert):

These lessons are taught by Jacob Meir Barsky and are an intensive beginner class with the goal of teaching each student basic notes, fingerings, and sound production on their new instrument. This class is open to students from any school. Waikiki School students may be eligible to borrow an instrument from the school for the duration of the program. Students must be, at least, entering 4th grade in 2019 or older.

Beginner Strings (M/W/F 2pm-3pm 13 rehearsals + concert):

These lessons are taught by Rachel Saul and Arri Nguyen  and are an intensive beginner class with the goal of teaching each student basic notes, fingerings, and sound production on their new instrument. This class is open to students from any school. Waikiki School students may be eligible to borrow an instrument from the school for the duration of the program. Students must be, at least, entering 4th grade in 2019 or older.

Beginner Percussion (M/W/F 2pm-3pm 13 rehearsals + concert):

These lessons are taught by Harrison Fong and special guest instructors. The session is an intensive beginner class with the goal of teaching each student basic technique, rhythm, and sound production on their new instrument. This class is open to students from any school. Students must be, at least, entering 4th grade in 2019 or older.
